We just got back from a weeklong trip to the Outer Banks. It's one of our favorite places to visit and this is a great time of year to go. Usually. This time we met some not-so-great weather on a few days. That didn't stop us from having a great time.
The first night there we were treated to a beautiful moon over the Atlantic.
We had a couple of days of bad weather, so we had to do some indoor activities. The kids watched Kung Fu Panda, and Elizabeth showed off her Kung Fu skills after the movie.
We also took a trip to the aquarium in Manteo on another rainy day. We've been several times before but it never disappoints. Here is the obligatory shot of Edwin and Elizabeth in front of the fish sculpture--we take one every time we're there.
Finally, we had some good weather and could play at the beach and the pool. Elizabeth really enjoyed playing in the sand, as well as splashing at the pool.
This is her Quentin Tarantino movie pose, she looks like a cold-blooded assassin with her water guns.
Edwin buried her in the sand and made the sand look like a bobsled.
Elizabeth and Edwin both played their first ever game of Mini-Golf. They enjoyed it and were pretty good at it.
Sadly, we had to leave on Saturday. But on the way out we hit 2 more spots. First was the Bodie Island Lighthouse. The inside is closed to visitors due to construction so we had to admire from the outside. The kids got some nice souveniers to bring home, Edwin bought a prism and Elizabeth chose a map of the Outer Banks for her room.
We also climbed Jockey's Ridge that day. Elizabeth made it all the way up the "big giant sand dune" (as she called it) all by herself and still had energy to run around at the top.
Views from the top of Jockey's Ridge are absolutely beautiful.
We commemorated Elizabeth's first climb with a t-shirt.
And the cutest pic of all, the car ride home.
Now it's back to reality, but it was a fun week with family and we hope to do it again soon!
This is Elizabeth right before leaving, eagerly anticipating the trip.
